Clifton Edwin Jones
January 5, 1923 - October 3, 2018
Clifton Edwin Jones, age 95, beloved Dad and Grandpa, passed peacefully away with his youngest daughter Mary at his side in his home, Orlando, Florida, under Vitas Hospice's guided kindness on 11:15am Wednesday, October 3, 2018. Cliff was born January 5, 1923 to Clarence Lee Jones and Loney Ford Jones in The Wilderness, Spotsylvania County, Virginia.
Cliff attended Chancellorsville High School, which prepared him well to score high on his military test, enabling him to enter as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Force. He served in World War II, Pacific Ocean Theater, flying a P-51 Mustang. Marrying Georgine Ellyn Kerr in June 1946, he settled in Apopka, FL working at his father-in-law George's Thrift Shop. He served as president of Apopka Rotary Club. Later, he managed the Bowliseum, sold New York Life Insurance, and finally, served as Orange County Public School Transportation Coordinator, retiring in 1985.
As a devoted Catholic, Cliff was one of the founding parishioners of St. Charles parish (1954). In 2010 he received the award, "The Order of St. Charles," presented to long time parishioners who have been involved in multiple ministries. He was a lector, Eucharistic Minister, Minister to the Sick, and sacristan at daily and Sunday Masses.
An avid lover of the rosary, he prayed daily an extended version of the rosary, a booklet he created with the names of all his family, friends, religious, sports and political people. He felt that this was one of his greatest contributions. He annually read the entire Bible.
He enjoyed his grandchildren's sports' games and hearing about their school activities, and shared his love for music with them. This great love of music extended from his childhood, learning to play his grandfather's violin, and later the guitar. Music became more central in later years as he sang old songs, secular and religious, looking them up on his iPad. In his final days he enjoyed the hospice music therapist, singing along with her.
Other hobbies he enjoyed included bowling, running, (completing half marathons and many 5K's with his adult children), motorcycling, reading, RV camping and playing bridge at Orlando Metropolitan Bridge Center with Georgine. He was often referred to as the birthday angel, remembering people's birthdays with a card or a call.
Cliff is survived by his children: Sandra Ellyn Bauerschmidt; Dolores Marie (Tim) Tanner; Larry Clifton (Jeannie) Jones; Randy (Lynne) Jones; and Mary Katherine (Rex) Hersey; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 3 great, great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, James Thomas Jones, Clarence Douglas Jones and Barbara Jones Self; his wife Georgine Ellyn Kerr and his sons, Robert Michael Jones and Paul Edwin Jones.
He wanted to be remembered for his devotion to his faith and family.

When I am gone, release me, let me go,
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess,
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled on alone.
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part.
So bless the memories within your heart,
I won't be far away, for life goes on,
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near,
And if you listen with your heart you'll hear,
All of my love around you soft and clear,
And then, when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and
