Asunción A. Ramirez, 88, passed away peacefully on November 30th in Orlando, Florida, surrounded by his family’s love.
Born on August 15, 1937, in Río Grande, Puerto Rico. Asunción lived a life filled with warmth, humor, and a generous spirit. He was funny, friendly, and full of life. He loved cooking, music, dancing, baseball, and cheering for his beloved New York Yankees. If there was a rhythm, he would find it, and he danced and played his guiro with joy whenever he could.
He shared a deep love for animals, especially his treasured cat Tutti Fruity, and his grand dogs Brady and Bella, who brought him joy.
A God-fearing man, who served faithfully as the church treasurer for many years, giving not from obligation but from a place of humble devotion. Yet his truest ministry was lived quietly in the everyday: in the way he cared for those around him, and in how naturally compassion flowed from him.
He carried a heart built for caring. He tended to his parents as they aged, supported his siblings, saw to his in-laws, and stood unwaveringly beside his wife through every season of their marriage. In the quiet, steady ways that matter most, he took care of those he loved — demonstrating what unconditional love and perseverance truly mean.
He is preceded in death by his parents Roberto Ramirez and Helen Wilson; his siblings Merquiades, Jose R. (Pepito), Juan A. (Peco), and Natividad (Nati), his brother-in-law Frank; and his beloved granddaughter Genesis.
He is survived by his loving wife America; his children José Abel (Aracelis), Roberto (Enivette), Anita Rambo (Tommie), and Rebecca Stansell (Kyle). He leaves behind grandchildren Sachelis, José Abel “Shiamel,” Mia Yalina, Kiara Yiselle, Paris, Erin Perry (Michael), Taylor Austin (Jovan), Christopher, Hazel, and Logan, and great-grandchildren Dominic, Sophia, Elisha, Simona, Maleeah, McKinzie, and Dallas. He is also survived by his brother Jesús Eduardo (Chimmy); his in-laws Rosita and Rafael Quiñones; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews. Among them, his nephew Victor H. Diaz saw him not just as an uncle, but as a father figure whose guidance and presence shaped his heart.
Asunción’s life cannot be reduced to dates or lists, because what made him extraordinary was not merely what he did, but how he loved. He gave without hesitation, shared without being asked, and cared without limits. His kindness was steady, his joy contagious, his presence comforting. He moved through this world with a gentle strength, the kind that leaves an imprint long after a person is gone.
A service honoring his life will be held on December 5th at 11:00 AM at:
Highland Funeral Home 3329 E. Semoran Boulevard Apopka, FL 32703
Asunción’s departure leaves a space impossible to fill, yet his spirit remains — in the recipes passed from his hands to his children’s, in the music that once made him dance, in the tender stories whispered from one generation to the next. He lives on in every heart he touched.
May his memory be a blessing. May his love continue guiding those he leaves behind. And may the legacy of his life shine long after this world has laid him to rest.
