Barbara Ann Turner of Winter Park, Florida passed away on May 8, 2019, at the age of 98. She was born March 20, 1921, in Canton, Illinois, to Maurice and Frances Twining Baughman. She graduated from Cuba High School, Cuba, Illinois, and on August 11, 1940, she married her childhood sweetheart, Charles H. Turner. They lived in the Cuba area until 1959 when they moved to Winter Park, Florida. Barbara and Charles were charter members of Asbury United Methodist Church in Maitland, Florida. They devoted their time and energy to civic organizations and to their church as well as to their family. She worked in Orange County Schools as a bookkeeper for 25 years - first at Maitland Junior High School and then at Winter Park Junior High School. Barbara was a 63 year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She rarely missed a meeting in all those years and was very devoted and active. She organized Chapter DJ, Winter Park, in 1968, and served as President several times. At the time of her death, she was a member of Chapter EJ of Winter Park. She lived the past 20 years of her life at Winter Park Towers where she was an active volunteer in several areas. She was named Volunteer of the Year in 2011. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1983, and by her son, Richard, in 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Anne Nickel, of Hoschton, Georgia, as well as by her three granddaughters, Heather Nickel of Stilwell, Kansas; Sherrie Nickel Estep of Hoschton, Georgia; and by Tabitha Nickel Antonovich of Hiram, Georgia. She is survived by 6 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. At her request, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Palm Cemetery, Winter Park, Florida.
