Benjamin “Ben” Franklin Griffin Jr. was born June 12, 1942 in Frederiksted, U.S. Virgin Islands. He grew up in the rural community of Milton, Florida. Ben graduated from Milton High School in 1960 and played on the varsity football team. He, also, attended Pensacola Junior College and served in the Army Reserve.
He was married to Elizabeth “Betty” Locke Griffin for fifty-three years and they made their home in Longwood, Florida where they raised their children, Lauren and Benny.
Ben enjoyed watching football games, riding motorcycles, cars, dogs, working on computers, and boating on the rivers and lakes of central Florida. He worked for Western Electric (now AT&T/Alcatel Lucent/Nokia) as a telephone equipment installer for many years and, later, as a union steward for CWA (Communication Workers of America).
He was blessed with very good health most of his life. Four years ago Ben survived two open heart surgeries. He went to his heavenly home on September 4, 2025. Ben loved his family, was a Christian and believed that Jesus was his Savior.
Ben is pre-deceased by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Griffin; son, Benjamin “Benji” Griffin III; daughter, Lauren Peace; parents, Ben F. Griffin Sr. and Gladys Griffin; brother, Raymond Griffin; survived by his son, Benjamin “Benny” Griffin IV (Annabellah); grandchildren: Jacob, Hannah, James, Liz, Shawn, and Ruth; and sister-in-law, Kathy Locke.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
