Claudia Edwards, affectionately known as Pearl, was born on February 23, 1951, in Green Island, Jamaica, to Sybil Foster and Syperian Mullings. She received her primary education at Georges Plain Primary School in Westmoreland and went on to attend Frome High School in Frome, Westmoreland, where she graduated in 1964. She later pursued her passion for fashion at the Vogue School of Fashion in Montego Bay, studying Fashion Design and developing her skills in sewing and garment construction.
In 1970, her mother migrated to the United States, entrusting Claudia with the care of her six younger siblings. Claudia embraced this responsibility with love and dedication. She became a maternal figure to her brothers and sister, caring for them with warmth, affection, and selflessness. She was the pillar of her family, the one her siblings depended on, especially when they traveled and needed someone to care for their children. Claudia’s unwavering devotion helped to keep the family united.
Professionally, Claudia worked as a Sales Clerk at William Lee-Shung Hardware Store & Haberdashery, where she took pride in assisting customers and serving her community.
Claudia was blessed to meet her sweetheart, Raphael; whom she married and made her soulmate in 1978. Of this union was the continuous blessings of two children; Kimberley and Uves. Claudia devoted much of her early adult life to caring for her siblings, nurturing her children, and supporting her husband; always placing family at the center of her life.
In 1983, Claudia surrendered her life to the Lord and was baptized; becoming an active member of the Green Island Wesleyan Holiness Church. There she faithfully served in several capacities, including the Sunday School Department, Youth President, Choir member, and Church Treasurer for seven years.
In December 2001, Claudia and her family migrated to the United States, where she worked as a Home Health Care Aide, caring compassionately for the elderly until her declining health rendered her no longer able to continue working.
Relocating led her and her husband to the Church of the Pilgrim Holiness, Inc. in Brooklyn, New York; where she became a member on December 9, 2001. There she continued her faithful walk with the Lord and served in the choir, missionary ministry, as an usher; thus, remaining dedicated to her church community. Claudia will be remembered among her Pilgrim family for the choruses she always raised, which most of the time was unfamiliar to the congregation. Her late Pastor Burnett would always call on her to teach a new chorus to those gathered.
In 2019, Claudia and her family moved to Florida. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren and found joy in the hobbies of crocheting, sewing, cooking, baking, and planting flowers.
She will be remembered for her loving spirit, steadfast faith, and unwavering devotion to her family. May her soul rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon her in God’s eternal garden, where the roses never fade.
