Donald Karraker

Donald Eugene Karraker, a titan among men whose legacy will forever resonate within the hearts of those who loved him, departed this world on May 19, 2025, in Windermere, Florida. Born on June 30, 1936, in Fall River, Kansas, Donald was a man of unparalleled intelligence, strength, and humor—a blend of attributes that endeared him to many throughout his remarkable life.

A dedicated servant of his country, Donald proudly wore the uniform of the United States Marine Corps, enlisting from June 8, 1954, to March 12, 1958. Graduating at the top of his class from electronics school, he went on to serve as a field engineer with The Martin Company, imparting his considerable knowledge by teaching the Army to harness the power of the first computer-guided missiles. This early chapter of his life set the stage for a career marked by achievement and respect.

In his professional journey, Donald thrived as an electrical project manager before carving a niche as an expert witness in electrical engineering, ultimately transitioning into the realm of engineering law as a construction litigator. His academic pursuits were equally impressive; he earned a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Florida and held three additional Degrees from the University of Central Florida, including one in engineering. Each step of his career was a testament to his determination and passion for learning, qualities that inspired those around him.

An over-the-top personality, Donald was known for his strong and stern demeanor tempered by a sparkling wit. He was not just an accomplished professional; he was an affectionate and supportive father and grandfather. Family was the cornerstone of his existence, and he willingly dropped everything to assist those in need, embodying a sense of loyalty and devotion that was truly remarkable. His grandchildren cherished the memories they made with him, as did all who knew him well. He possessed a unique ability to connect with people, his joviality illuminating any gathering, while his unwavering support provided solace in trying times.

Donald had a profound love for nature that manifested in his hobbies—he took joy in feeding birds and squirrels and lovingly constructed elaborate feeding stations in his yard. His adventurous spirit led him to travel, embracing new places and experiences with open arms. Additionally, Donald had a keen interest in genealogy, often delving deep into the stories of his ancestors, preserving their legacy for future generations.

Donald is survived by his devoted spouse, Carolyn Cappleman Karraker; his beloved daughters, Diana Karraker Doty and Barbara Karraker Gauger; and his cherished sons, Eugene and Holt Cappleman.
