On the morning of July 19, 2022, Doris Esther Bush passed away peacefully at the age of 94. She was a loving mother of four, a doting grandmother of 6, and a proud great-grandmother of 9.5 great grandkids.
Doris was born in 1927 in Jacksonville, Florida and raised in Miami. In 1948 she married her best friend, Pete Bush, who she met while working at Eastern Airlines. They had four children: Joe Bush, Peggy Touchton, Carol Hancock, and Connie Hancock. In addition to running a household of 6, she also put her exceptional organizational skills and business knowledge to use as a bookkeeper and office manager of a neurosurgery office. After she and Pete retired in Central Florida, they enjoyed spending time with family on Big Pine Key, where she practiced her expert skills in fishing as well as gourmet cooking, which everyone loved. She lovingly shared her master crochet skills with not only her family, but anyone in need of an afghan or potholder, and her family will treasure these gifts for many years to come. Doris was a fierce game player and could beat anyone at a game of Rummikub up until her last days. She especially cherished the 50th anniversary pendant that Pete gave her for their golden anniversary, and they continued to add a diamond to it each year until he passed in 2014.
Doris’ family was her pride and joy. She adored all 6 of her grandkids: Luke Hancock, Naomi Haverland, Josh Touchton, Kristen Bird, Robert Hancock, and Courtney Gilletti. It would always bring a smile to her face when one of them would come by to visit her, particularly when they brought her great-grandkids – who she always had plenty of advice for. Doris always retained her deep spiritual convictions and was a spiritual mentor and dedicated prayer warrior for many people in her life. She always told her family that she had a near perfect life, and as much as she loved her family they also adored her. Her absence will now be mourned deeply.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Pete Bush and her younger siblings Bill Bennion and Shirley Nelson.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at 10am on Friday, August 5th at Trinity Baptist Church in Apopka, Florida. Doris specifically requested that the event be a happy and cheerful celebration.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Trinity Baptist Church.
