Dorothy L Gayen, a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on April 30, 2024, at Health Central, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born on June 30, 1936 to Pastor MJ and Christina Laben in Kotarrakara, Kerala, India.

She embarked on a remarkable journey of compassion and service from a young age. At just 16, she pursued her passion for nursing, graduating in 1956 from Bangalore.

In 1960, she married her husband Promod Gayen while she was working at Bariatu Hospital in Ranchi, India.

In 1970, they moved to the US along with her 3 children to Maryland. Dorothy dedicated over 46 years to nursing, leaving a legacy at Leeland Memorial Hospital, Howard University Hospital, Washington Adventist University Hospital, and later, West Orange Hospital in Orlando.

Alongside her husband, she co-founded the Windermere SDA Church, embodying their dedication to faith.

Dorothy's quiet demeanor was paired with her keen intuition and generous spirit. Philanthropic endeavors were of great importance to her which was highlighted by her support for her childhood church in Trivandrum, Kerala. She deepened that commitment by helping others in many other ways, as well as donating to organizations.

She cherished family bonds, never forgetting a birthday or important date, and found joy in travel and conversations about politics, faith, and memories. She also enjoyed her hobbies like sewing, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

In her retirement, Dorothy embraced her role as a grandmother, finding solace in faith and the comfort of family. Her legacy of compassion, faithfulness, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.

Dorothy was the 2nd of 8 children and she is survived by her 2 siblings: Donny Laben and Ramani Matthew. As well her 3 children: Binu, Minu, and Pradip. As well as her 5 grandchildren: Kristina, Steven, Konnor, Priya and Tiffany. As well as numerous other family and friends whom she loved.
