Edward William Kern, affectionately known as Ed, Eddie, Big Ed, Dad, Pop Pop, and Uncle Woody, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, in Apopka, Florida, at the age of 73.
Born on February 3, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, Ed was the beloved son of Edward Roy Kern and Marilyn Edna Kern. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Kern; his children, Eddie Kern, Tom Kern, and John Kern; and his cherished grandchildren, Asa, Ezra, Liberty, and Eve Kern. He is also survived by his brother, Gregory Kern, and preceded in death by his sister, Lynn Morris. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews.
Ed proudly served his country as a Navy Veteran before building a successful career as an aluminum specialty contractor—a true “Screen Doctor.” Beyond his work, Ed was a man of many passions. He loved music and entertaining, fishing, restoring classic trucks, gardening, and caring for animals. His faith in God guided his life, and he lived as a servant of Christ.
Known for his charisma and big heart, Ed never met a stranger. He had a gift for drawing people—and even critters—close to him. His kindness, humor, and unwavering love for family and friends will be remembered forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 24th, at Highland Memory Gardens, 3329 E. Semoran Blvd, Apopka, FL. Guests are welcome at 9:30 AM, with the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
Ed’s legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
