Emmett J. Foster passed away on July 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Jan Foster; his children, Gregory Jay Foster and Linda Jane Thomas; his daughter-in-law, Patty Foster, and son-in-law, Paul Thomas; his grandchildren, Cole Foster, Payton Foster, Ashtin Miraglia, Cara Thomas, Cole Foster, and Payton Foster; and his great-grandchildren, Wyatt Miraglia and Lukas Foster.

Emmett was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Stella Foster, and his sister, Betty Foster-Jarrell of Beckley, West Virginia.

A native of West Virginia, Emmett attended Marshall University, where he earned his MBA and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He proudly served in the United States Army during the 1950s, including an overseas assignment in Africa.

Emmett built an extraordinary career in banking through hard work, integrity, and vision. Throughout his distinguished career, he served as President and CEO of multiple banks across the southeastern United States. Following his executive career, he continued to serve the banking industry as a member of numerous bank boards, educational organizations, and professional associations, always seeking opportunities to learn, lead, and mentor others. Among his many accomplishments, he was known for helping introduce the MasterCard network east of the Mississippi River, a milestone that reflected his forward-thinking leadership.

At just 48 years old, Emmett retired to Central Florida, where he and Jan made their home in Sweetwater Club for the past 43 years. Although retired from banking, Emmett remained active in the business world and enjoyed pursuing entrepreneurial ventures.

Emmett always had a positive outlook on life. He loved playing golf and tennis, traveling, going to the beach, and spending time with his beloved cats that he and Jan welcomed into their home.

Emmett will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, businessman, veteran, mentor, and friend. His legacy of leadership, kindness, optimism, and love for his family will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Emmett's life will be held at the Highland Funeral Home on Monday, July 27, 2026 at 2pm. Following the services a reception will be held in Emmett's honor at the family home.
