Florence Pfeil

Florence Teresa Pfeil Née Wroblewski

Our mother, Florence Teresa Pfeil, 91, passed away the morning of September 25, 2021, in Birmingham, Alabama, after a battle with a breakthrough case of COVID-19. Florence “Flo” was born in Brooklyn, NY to Ludwig and Anastasia Maria “Stella.” She was preceded in death by her older brother Casimir “Charlie” whom she adored. She became a Registered Nurse in 1950 and practiced nursing for 50 years. She met the love of her life, George Arthur Pfeil, when he was admitted into a hospital in Brooklyn for surgery and she was assigned as his nurse. Flo and George lived on Long Island and loved to have big holiday dinners with everyone in the family. Dinners often included over 20 people and Flo would cook for days preparing for the celebration. After living in New York for over 20 years and raising a family, they moved to Orlando, Florida. Flo continued to work as a nurse in Orlando for another 30 years. She lost the love of her life, Deputy Sheriff George Pfeil in 1977, when he was killed in the line of duty during a drug store robbery in Longwood, Florida. She missed him terribly but put her love for her family first and was always there to support and help them in any way she could. She loved to travel, read, spend time with friends and family, and try new adventures. She particularly loved Walt Disney World theme parks and spent many days there with her grandchildren. She may have ridden every ride at least once!

She will always be remembered by her four children: Amy Pfeil Neimkin and Alice Ann Pfeil Howell of Birmingham, Alabama, George Arthur Pfeil (Paddy), and John Christian Pfeil of Orlando, Florida; six grandchildren: Michael Neimkin (Kimberly), Sean Pfeil (Charlotte), Kevin Pfeil, Kerry Pfeil Shroyer (Josh), Will Howell, and Elizabeth Pfeil; four great grandchildren: Aine Pfeil, Nellie and Mae Neimkin, and Hayden Shroyer; and nieces: Sue Spollen (John) and Carol Garris.
