Howard Strauss

Howard L. Strauss, 71 years old, passed away unexpectedly at his home in New Smyrna, Florida on July 28, 2025.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 16, 1954. As a very young man, he moved to West Virginia where he lived for many years. His dreams led him to become an incredibly successful entrepreneur and forward-thinking businessman in real estate, land development, and management. He founded and ran a large, thriving campground on the Potomac River. As Berkeley County Commission President, he was instrumental in impacting the life and welfare of many people while focused on the growth of the area.

During Howard's entire life, he was generous with his family and friends. He was gregarious, driven, and full of life as evidenced by strong relationships. His family bonds extending to his aunts, uncles and cousins in Montreal were paramount in his life. Over the course of thirty plus years his campground community was extremely dear to his heart.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anita Strauss. He leaves behind his brothers Ron, Rich (Val), Robert (Sue) and Wayne (Emily), his sister Joann Strauss, six nephews and nieces, their children, and Lee Strauss and family. He will be truly missed.
