Early in the morning on June 17, 2023, God called to rest a loving and devoted wife and mother, Jean Carr. Jean was born to Pearl & Isaac Mignott in the garden parish of Jamaica, St. Ann on February 11, 1945. She was the third of four daughters – Dorrett (Cherry), Claudette (Grace), Jean ( Lin) & Pearl ( Rose).
Jean attended Ferncourt High School and there forged lifetime friendships; friends who became family! Her working career at Kaiser & Shell Co. West Indies grew her circle of friends / family; she prided herself on maintaining contact with them all throughout the years.
After 4 years of friendship, she married the love of her life, B. Anthoney “Tony” Carr, on September 19, 1970. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Dionne and Nadine. Family was her pride and joy! She was thrilled by the addition of two sons, Dwight in 2002 & Ev’ns in 2006. The apple of her eye was her only granddaughter, Jada-Ann.
She loved to sing and dance and lift her voice in praise and worship to God. Her radio was playing 24/7; she loved to listen to the Gaithers – singing along at the top of her lungs. She was a devout lifelong Methodist and was very active in her local church in St Ann's Bay , St. Ann, Jamaica. Working diligently with the treasury team, an active member of the birthday club and was very active in all fundraising activities for the building fund. Hers was a life of service to many with whom she came in contact– she was also active in her local Optimist club and was a member of the Friends of St. Ann’s Bay Hospital.
Jean will be dearly and lovingly missed by her devoted husband, Tony of 53 years, daughter Dionne (Dwight Newman), daughter Nadine (Ev’ns Cenafils), granddaughter, Jada-Ann Newman, sister Cherry (Horace Ebanks), sister Grace Lawrence, sister Rose (Len Smith) and several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law (Yvonne & Vinnette), cousins, and a host of dear friends and loved ones.
