John Allen Brotherton

November 16, 1920 — August 12, 2014

John Allen Brotherton, 93, of Orlando, Florida, went home to the Lord Tuesday, August 12, 2014. He was born November 26, 1920 in Munhall, PA to John and Rose Brotherton, and was a big brother to four siblings.

John enlisted in the Army Air Corps at age 21 in answer to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He had a distinguished career as a pilot through WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. John was an active member of College Park Methodist Church, and he was a 32 degree Mason.

John married Ann Elizabeth Betty Junstrom in 1943, with whom he raised four children and enjoyed a loving, supportive, and fulfilling relationship for 37 years before Betty went home to the Lord in 1980.

After 27 years of military service, John retired as a Lt. Col in 1969. He then joined the U.S. Postal Service until full retirement in 1982. He married Rebecca Becky Maxwell Wilder in 1981. The two went on to spend many joyful years travelling the country in their motor homes, visiting every state in the union, including Alaska and all provinces of Canada, as well as a trip to Hawaii. Together, John and Becky kept active through square dancing, games with friends, trips with their grandchildren, and membership with College Park United Methodist Church.

Johns contagious smile and joy for life impacted all who were fortunate enough to know and love him, and through his sense of humor he always reminded us just how fortunate we were by always saying Glad you got to see me He is survived by two brothers, Charles and Paul Brotherton, his sister Ellen Adkins, daughters Kay Adams, Norma Flory, and Beth McArthur, stepdaughter Jan Wilder, grandchildren Rhonda Adams, Stacey Brooks, and Sarah McArthur, four great grandchildren, and one greatgreat grandson, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
