Joy Marie McFarland of Altamonte Springs passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on October 17, 2022. Joy is survived by her son Lee and her daughter Robin. Joy was predeceased by her loving husband Mac in 1975.
Joy was born to George and Gladys Taylor on May 8, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was one of six children. Joy lived up to her name, bringing happiness to many people throughout her lifetime. Joy loved music and to sing. She performed her first solo "White Cliffs of Dover" in 6th grade. Joy's love of music and a patriotic spirit prompted her to join the USO, and it was while performing with the USO in 1956 on an air base in the Azores that she was first introduced to her future husband, Wallace Lee McFarland Sr., otherwise known as Mac. They were married in 1959. Joy would continue to follow her love of music by singing in her church choir, and with a local women's choir known as the Seminole Singers. Joy was a member of P.E.O., a philanthropic women's organization, for over 40 years. Joy loved to meet new people and easily made friends from all over the world while being a member of a cultural exchange group called The Friendship Force. As a wedding officiant, Joy performed over 11,000 marriage ceremonies as "A Wedding with Joy" for local couples, as well as couples who came to central Florida from all across the United States and beyond. She "tied the knot" for couples who came over from England, Scotland and Ireland, creating lifelong friendships. Joy was as much known for her quick smile, sense of humor and enthusiasm, as she was her macaroni and cheese.
