Leroy Morton

A lifetime of duty and service came to an end this past week as Leroy D. Morton passed away peacefully on Friday, November 1st in Winter Park, Florida.

Leroy emerged from the mountains and hills of West Virginia, after his birth in the small town of Allingdale, in 1935. The son of Bernice and Shaldon Morton, he was raised in West Virginia and entered the U.S. Marine Corps followed by the U.S. Air Force. After coming to Florida he was an Orlando Police Officer and became the Deputy Chief of the Winter Park Police Department. While in Winter Park he also served as the Commander of their SWAT Team. Along the way he managed to earn an AS Degree, acquire 112 hours toward his Bachelor’s Degree and graduate from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

He also was a cowboy and a horseman who was an advocate of the Parelli Natural Horsemanship approach to training his two horses and working with his granddaughters as they learned to ride and compete.

Leroy is preceded into heaven by his beloved wife Barbara, his sister Eleanor, and his brother Baron. He is survived by his children, daughter Patty (Jeff) Dixon, son David (Cheryl) Morton, his grandchildren – David Jr., Kaleigh, Shannon, Brooke, Ashley, and Cayden. His great grand girl Taylor, his sister Nadine (Clyde) Ottinger, and his good friend Luther.

A celebration of life will be held at The Church @ 434 in Winter Springs, Florida on Tuesday, November 5 at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements by Highland Funeral Home, Apopka FL.
