Mary Margaret Thornton Hummell

- age 81, of Sylva passed away Monday, October 8, 2018. Mary was born November 16, 1936 in Orlando, FL to the late Edward and Emma (Hoeltke) Thornton. She was married to the late Norman Eugene Hummell Sr. who passed away in 1998. Mary was a beloved mother to many and spent her life caring for her family who she loved dearly.

She is survived by four children, Karen Hummell, Norman (Pam) Hummell, Becky Hummell and Kristina (Chris) Owen; grandchildren Jackie Hummell, Tiffany Kim, Daniel DeVoy, Justin Hummell, Lindsey Long, Preston Owen, Shelby Owen, Reece Hummell, Pierson Owen and Paige Owen; great grandchildren Brock Long and Alyssa Kim; one brother Billy Thornton and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by one brother Edward Thornton.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018; 11am at Highland Funeral Home, 3329 E. Semoran Blvd., Apopka, FL. Mary's request was that instead of flowers please make donations in her memory to Hospice Promise Foundation, 81 Medical Park Loop Suite 204, Sylva, NC 28779.
