Milton H Brown

March 31, 1931 — December 13, 2023

Apopka, Florida

Milton Brown was 92 years old when he transitioned peacefully from this earthly life to his next chapter on December 13, 2023 with family by his side.

Milton was born Westmoreland, Jamaica to William Brown and Leah Porter. He attended Frome Secondary School and grew up to become a “Jack of all trades” from being a self-taught electrician, plumber, mechanic, bartender, you name it and he could do it all. He spent his early years in Westmoreland with his many brothers and sisters and fathering his two sons, before moving to Montego Bay, Jamaica in the early 1960s.

Milton met the love of his life, Mayveline in 1965; they wedded five years later and together they had two daughters. He was a loving father, who cared deeply about providing all that he was able to for his family.  In Montego Bay, Milton spent most of his employment in the hotel industry.

In 1985, he migrated to the United States with the family. He worked as a security officer for the City of University of New York school system for 16 years, when he retired at 70 years old. In 2005, Milton and Mayveline relocated to Apopka, Florida where he got his second wind to freely pursue his interests in the warm weather.

His hobbies and interests included spending quality time with the family, gardening, fishing, playing dominoes, cross word puzzles, and solitaire. He was a quiet man who was known for his mischievous laughter and cunning remarks especially when beating his opponents in his favorite game of dominoes.  He also quietly enjoyed hearing his nieces competing to be called the “favorite niece”.

In addition to spending time with his family, Milton enjoyed welcoming guests at his home with either his signature fruit punches, cheese cake, carrot cake or rum and raisin ice cream.

He was a man of integrity who loved the Lord and was a member of the Thrive Church Apopka. Despite the many health challenges he faced over the past years, he remained resilient through it all. Milton spent the last two weeks of his life surrounded by family and friends whom he had touched in different ways. In his last few hours he prayed, read his favorite bible scripture and listened to and sang his favorite songs.

Milton is survived by his spouse; four children; son-in-law; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings.

Milton’s departure from this life will leave a void that will not be easily filled, but we find comfort in the many wonderful memories we shared with him and the positive impact he had on so many lives. As we mourn his loss, we also want to celebrate the rich tapestry of his life, remembering the joy he brought to others.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Thrive Church Apopka Missionary Fund in the honor of Milton Brown.
