IN CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF PEGGY JOYCE SMITH

Peggy Joyce (Plum) Smith, 95, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida, surrounded by her family. Born on May 31, 1931, in Easton, PA, she was one of eight siblings, sharing her upbringing with sisters Loretta, Carol, and Mary Lou, and brothers Frank, Gene, Glen, and Eddie.

Peggy retired from the University of Central Florida (UCF) after 25 years of dedicated service. While employed there, she proudly earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (BSBA). An active spirit, Peggy enjoyed biking, swimming, and reading mystery novels.

She was a deeply devoted member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where she participated in her Renew group and served as a Eucharistic Minister to hospitals and the homebound for 15 years. Peggy had a rare, beautiful talent for taking care of aging and ill family members, always putting the needs of loved ones first.

Peggy is survived by her eight children: Linda Witz, Sandy Flora, Mike Medellin, Joe Medellin, Dan Medellin, Don Medellin, Ron Medellin, and Robert Smith, alongside numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a public visitation on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Highland Memory Gardens in Apopka, FL (family hours begin at 4:00 PM). A funeral service will take place on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens at 1:00 PM.
