Richard Lawrence Kovacs, 90, of Lake Mary, Florida, native of the Chicagoland area peacefully passed away on Friday, July 21st. Richard was born on December 6th, 1932, to Joseph A. Kovacs and Anna Kovacs in Chicago, Illinois. After Richard graduated from Chicago Vocational High School in 1951, He went on to join the United States Air Force from 1952-1956.
After his time in the Air Force, he returned home to Chicago where he worked numerous jobs including the Illinois Central Railroad. It was while working at Baskins Department Store in 1958 is where he met Ivonne Garcia. The two were wed on August 6th, 1960. Richard and Ivonne went on to have 3 children, Yvonne Mary (Larson), Jeanette Marie (Jordan), and Brian Richard Kovacs.
In 1998, Richard retired and spent his time enjoying his family and working on his extensive model railroad. He also gave back to the community by working as a crossing guard in Lisle and later Yorkville.
Richard was predeceased by his mother, father, and by his brother Joseph Kovacs. He is survived by his beloved wife Ivonne, his children Yvonne Mary (husband Rick) Larson, Jeanette (husband Darin) Jordan, and Brian Kovacs (significant other Michelle), as well his grandchildren Richard, Brianna, Brandon, Vanessa, Aidan, Carter, Zavier, Gianna, and Rozzie.
A celebration of life will be held at Elements at Water Street, 123 Water Street, Naperville, Illinois on Monday, August 7th with visitation hours between 5:00- 8:00 pm Central Time. A tribute presentation will take place at 7pm.
