Tamaki Barr, a woman whose life was a living testament to joy, faith, and love, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on October 29, 1948, in the beautiful city of Ueda, Japan, Tamaki was the daughter of Koji and Sakai Yamamoto and the sister of Kinuyo Yamamoto. She carried with her the grace and warmth of her homeland wherever she went - and she shared it freely with everyone she met.
In 1971, Tamaki came to the United States, where she married and began building a life rooted in faith and family. In 1991, she proudly became a United States citizen - a milestone that reflected her deep love for her adopted home. Ordained as a minister through Gospel Crusade in 1994, Tamaki answered a call that had been evident to everyone around her long before it was ever made official. For over 40 years, she gave herself generously as a volunteer in churches throughout her community, serving boldly and faithfully wherever she was needed.
Her faith was never confined to four walls. Tamaki felt called to pray over the nations, and she answered that call - taking prayer journeys to Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, and Japan. She walked those lands with intercession in her heart, carrying the love of God to every corner of the earth she touched, including the country of her birth.
To know Tamaki was to feel seen, heard, and deeply loved. She had a remarkable gift: every person in her presence felt like her favorite. She made time for everyone - a hello in passing, a word of encouragement, a scripture quoted at precisely the right moment. She was not just kind; she was wise. Not just joyful; she was a source of joy for all around her. She was a light and she gave that light away without reservation.
A devoted follower of Jesus and a cherished member of Ascension Church, she lived her belief not just in words but in every interaction. She loved to pray, study the Bible, and interpret dreams. She blew the shofar with conviction, and sang to the Lord with her whole heart.
Her passions were as rich and varied as she was. Tamaki played piano, sang, and in her later years discovered a deep love of watercolor painting and calligraphy - finding new ways to express the beauty she saw in the world.
Tamaki is survived by her daughter, Emi, and son, Silas, and her four treasured grandchildren: Abigail, Caleb, Sakura, and Koji - who knew her by the sweetest name: Grandy. Each of whom knew without question that they were her favorite. She leaves behind a world that is quieter without her voice, but brighter for every life she touched. Well done, good and faithful servant.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday June 20th at Ascension Christian Center located at 430 Wymore Rd, Altamonte Springs, Florida at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception with refreshments.
