Thelma Thornhill was born February 4,1935 in Stanaford West Virginia to William and Elsie Fleeman. She was one of 12 children and a true coal miners' daughter. When her father contracted black lung, he became a minister and church, and God became a very important part of her life.

She was married with two children and one on the way when the family moved to the Washington DC area for a better life. With a ninth-grade education, she started a job at GEICO as a file clerk and within two years became supervisor of the entire floor. She stayed there for 10 years and in 1966 left and moved to Orlando Florida area again looking for a better life and the beautiful blue skies it had to offer.

She had several occupations in Florida, first being a mom to a new baby boy. She was a real estate agent; she owned a restaurant and eventually got into the carpet business and set up Thornhill Carpets. When the shop closed, she went to work at a carpet warehouse doing computer work in purchasing and sales. Her job was eventually retired, but she was not ready to do the same. She then worked at WALMART as a cashier for the next 20 years. She finally retired at age 82.

She loved bowling, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, food, flowers, cruising, but most of all she loved family and God. She loved her WALMART family and enjoyed dining out, cruising the world and celebrating life with them. She also loved her church family attending Calvary Orlando Church and participating in Young at Heart at First Baptist Orlando. She loved praise and worship!!! She was a hard worker and was always trying to improve herself and move forward. One of her major accomplishments that she was so proud of was getting her GED in 1996 at the age of 61.

In 2019, with some declining health, she decided to leave her friends and lifestyle and moved to Port Orange Florida to be closer to family. She was introduced to things she had never done before. She made new friends at the Senior Center playing bingo and cards, she enjoyed eating on the waterfront and watching the sunset. She enjoyed watching and playing with her great grandkids and grand DOG. She still did her jigsaw puzzles, she still loved her plants and flowers, she still loved to eat! She loved to watch her church TV. She was happy in her last home. She passed in her sleep and went to be with the Lord on June 12, 2026.

She was proceeded in death by her sisters, Margaret Sallie and Faye Smith, brothers, Paul and David Fleeman, and her son Roy "Tyke" Ballenger. She leaves behind her sisters, Ann (Chester) Redden, Gay (James) Hayworth, and Sharon Stableton, her brothers Nick Fleeman, Lee Fleeman, Norman (Theresa) Fleeman, and Jack (Kathy) Fleeman, her children Terri (David) Armstrong, Debra (Paul) Silverman, and Chip (Tammy) Thornhill, her grandchildren Michael, Josh, Zach, and Cassie, her great grandchildren Eli, AvaClaire, Adley, Kaden, Leon and Millie and her great-great-grandchild Gia. She had a large, blended family and loved them all. She had a life well lived here on earth and is happy now to have eternal life with the Lord. In lieu of flowers, she has requested donations to Halifax Health, Hospice of Daytona Beach, who took such good care of her in her final days.
