A Life Lived and Loved

Thomas Michael Phillip (3/7/1929-7/15/2023)

Born in Maracas, St. Joseph Trinidad on March 7, 1929 to the late Amy Phillip (nee James) and Imaman Ghany Phillip, Thomas Michael Phillip was the middle of three boys, Cyril (deceased) and Jordan (deceased), and later two sisters, Angeline (Canada), and Gwendolyn (deceased). He was daddy, uncle, brother, cousin and granddad to many.  Mike passed peacefully, surrounded by his family and pastor.  He will be missed more than words can tell by all who knew him.

His family grew up very poor with little food and clothing during the second World War.  When his father died he was very young but was given the responsibility of helping to care for the family.

Through hard work, perseverance, long days, determination, strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial mind, Mike built a successful and thriving business despite major setbacks.  Mike Phillip Ltd became a household name throughout Trinidad and Tobago and surrounding islands.

In 1960 Mike married the love of his life, Monica. He was devoted to Monica until the time of her death in 2017.   They successfully raised 3 girls – Sandra (Tony), Karen (Trevor) and Celeste.  He was grandfather to Adam, Alexa (Antonio), Ashley (Cleon), Brent (Trina), Brad, Kelsey (Steven).  He was dog dad to the late Spike, Rusty and Sheena.

Mike was a proud founding member of the Mt. D’or SDA Church in Trinidad and was well loved by the membership. In everything he did he gave thanks to God and never failed to pay tithe, many times double tithe even when met with financial difficulties.

One of Mike’s passions was animals.  He was heartbroken to leave his beloved Doberman Spike after migrating and spoke of him often.  He was loving, kind, generous, and creative.   After retiring, Mike spent more time caring for Monica as she declined as well as visiting his children.  He never missed Monday night wrestling and court shows, researching various medicinal cures, observing construction and design, and studying his Sabbath School lesson.  He found himself loving technology and was rarely seen without his Ipad.

The family would like to thank AdventHealth Daytona Florida for their compassion and loving care of Mike the last days of his life, and for going above and beyond to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Mike will be laid to rest on Sunday July 23 at Forest Lake Seventh Day Adventist Church, 515 Harley Lester Ln, Apopka, FL 32703.  Visitation 12-1pm, Service 1pm proceeded by burial at the Highland Memorial Gardens, 3329 E Semoran Blvd, Apopka Fl 32703.

Praise God for the Blessed Hope

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” Philippians 3:20-21
