Vernon Mangold

Vernon (Vern) Mangold Sr, age 84, from Altamonte Springs, Fl passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at home. He was born in 1935 in Dayton, Ohio. He was Preceded by his Mother Grace Mangold, Father Herman Mangold and Son Vincent Mangold. He is survived by His wife of 41 years Laura Snow Mangold, Son’s: Vernon Jr, Tony, Edward(Sara), Michael, Lee(Erin), Daughters Leona Pacheo and Kathryn Balling, Brother Greg(Martha) and Sister Carol Elaine Anderson (Bill) and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dr. Mangold was awarded his Doctorate in Physics from Southeastern University in 1983, and included among his extensive professional successes were developing businesses that utilized laser technology, authoring books detailing positive and negative effects of lightning, was an accomplished researcher in a variety of technological areas including military systems, health physics, electro-optics, and was president and owner of AMTC Lasers located in Orlando.

Vern’s military career as a Marine included serving 3 years with the Fifth Recruit Battalion stationed at Parris Island S.C. Additionally, he obtained a Certificate of Service from the Department of the Airforce for twenty years of faithful civil service.

Vern will be most affectionately remembered for his unconditional love for children, be it his own, his grandchildren or any and all kids he encountered where he could evoke a smile or laugh. These were his most enjoyable times.
