Agnes Scannell

June 10, 1915 — September 26, 2019

Agnes C. Scannell

After a remarkably long and happy life, Agnes C. Scannell passed away on September 26, 2019. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 10, 1915 to Dr. John and Agnes Scannell. The eldest of five children, Agnes would be followed by her siblings John, Catherine, James, and Mary. The family would eventually move to Queens, and they would spend many happy summers together at Old Orchard Beach in Maine. After high school she began her career in banking at Chase Manhattan bank, eventually becoming a branch manager, a rare accomplishment for a woman at that time. In retirement Agnes moved to Longwood, Florida. An active member of Annunciation parish, she developed many lasting friendships among the Women’s Group.

Throughout her life, Agnes was a cherished member of many families, both those related by blood and those who embraced her as an honorary member. She will long be remembered for her beautiful smile, unfailing kindness, deep faith, and amazing generosity. She loved stylish clothing, doing puzzles, balancing her checkbook, and having a cocktail before dinner.

Agnes was preceded in death by all of her siblings. She is survived by her nephew Matthew (wife Robin, children Scott and Eric); niece Megan (husband Ian, children Daniel and Jennifer); niece Ellen (husband John, children Conor, Sarah, and Laura); and nephew James (partner Wendy). She is also fondly remembered by the children of her cousins and family friends with whom she remained in close throughout her life.

A wake will be held on Friday Oct 11 at Highland Funeral Home from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. The funeral mass will be held at Annunciation Catholic Church on Saturday Oct. 12 at 10:00 AM.
