Geraldine Fluker

November 28, 1938 — December 27, 2021

Apopka, FL.

Geraldine Fluker, born November 28, 1938 and longtime resident of Apopka, died December 27, 2021 of complications due to coronavirus following a long battle with Alzheimers disease.

She was mother of six - Krys Fluker of Apopka; James Fluker of Grand Prairie, Texas; Beth Berndt of Yorba Linda, California (Reiner, deceased); Angelique Hamilton of Longwood; Lynn Keller of Blossvale, New York (Artie) and Andy Fluker of Longwood (Jennifer). She also had 11 grandchildren, whom she adored, and many nieces and nephews.

But her love of life, sense of humor and abiding faith reached far beyond family. Geraldine made an impact on hundreds of people, from the members of her Sunday School class for adults with developmental disabilities to the many friends she made in bowling leagues. She loved crossword puzzles and gardening, but most importantly, she was always there to lend a shoulder or provide good advice to anyone who needed her help.

Daughter to Ocie and Malcolm Sharp, she was the middle of five children, including four brothers who are now deceased. Raised in Alabama and Tennessee, Geraldine moved to Central Florida in 1958 as Milton Fluker's young bride and a nurse still in training. Together they forged a vibrant life that included their ever-growing family and travel to many of the places she dreamed of seeing. After Milton's death in 2017, she battled the slow advance of dementia while still showing - right up to her last months - the quiet determination and grace that made her such a light to those who knew her. The family is grateful to the caregivers who helped her maintain dignity and good health and the in-home care from AdventHealth Hospice.

In light of the current pandemic, a family-only service is scheduled for Monday, January 11, at Highland Memory Gardens in Apopka, where she will be interred next to Milton.
