Ligia Chamorro

May 26, 1937 — August 11, 2021

Apopka, FL.

Ligia Chamorro, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at her home in Apopka, FL. She was born May 26, 1937, in Alvarado Tolima, Colombia to Marcos Rodriguez
and Silvia Rengifo and was the eldest of six children. Ligia joined the SDA Church during her teen years and lived in Bogota, Colombia, where she met her husband, Ismael Eduardo Vasquez. They had two children Maritza and Alexis, and immigrated to the United States in 1963 where they built a future for their family in Tacoma Park, Maryland. Ligia was well liked in the community and was a faithful member of the Washington Spanish SDA Church. As a deaconess, she helped in the nursery and assisted in coordinating Sabbath potlucks. Ligia was happy using her gift of service. She was well known for her love of cooking and helping others.

In 1977 the family moved to Costa Rica, sadly her marriage ended in divorce and she returned to the states where she later met and married Esteban Chamorro at the Forest City Spanish SDA Church. The family instantly grew by five more children from Estebanʼs previous marriage. Ligia immediately took them in as her own, although they were grown, she was always concerned that they were happy and had what they needed. She will be remembered for her bright shining light in the various communities and churches she served. She always had a smile, a hug, and a warm plate of food for all who entered her home. She was also known to be an avid gardener and loved sharing plants and gardening tips with friends and neighbors.

Ligia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Alirio Rodriguez, her granddaughter Vanessa Vasquez, and her nephew Steve Rodriguez, both whose untimely deaths caused her great heartache from which she never recovered. Ligia was the doting grandmother of Alexis Vasquez II, Eduardo Vasquez, Vanessa Vasquez, Edward A. Gonzalez, and Monica Oliver, and great-grandmother to Isabella Schmitt, Jeremiah Vasquez, Lincoln R. Vasquez, and Alexia Vasquez. Ligia also adopted in her heart as a grandson, Lorenzo, the neighbor's grandson whom she cared for the last 14 years.
