MARSHALL R. HOLMES

- age 87 of Apopka, FL.; passed away January 12, 2021 of congestive heart failure in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 9, 1933 in Homestead, FL to Reid Augustine and Kathleen Houck Holmes.

Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Iris Hubbard Holmes; Children: Melinda Taylor (Greg Taylor), Myron Holmes (Sheri Holmes), Carla Fernandez (Al Fernandez), Ronnie Powell Holmes (Christine Rayle), Brian Holmes (Janet Barriger), Sharon Hatch (Carlos Allavena); Grandchildren: Diana Taylor, Andrea Smith, Jack Taylor, Sharla Hitt, Amanda Vaughn, James Holmes, Glenn Holmes, Bethany Welch, Sarah Linn, Richard Morehouse, Elizabeth Coleman, Roan Holmes, Justin Hatch, Julian Hatch, Cory Hatch; Great-grandchildren: Aurora Mathews, MiLayna Welch, Samuel Linn, Maisie Anderson

Mr. Holmes served in the Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict from 1953 – 1961. He was married in 1957 to the love of his life, Iris, for 65 years. Marshall was a master electrician and foreman for many commercial buildings in the Orlando area including the CNN tower, the Sanford power plant, Walt Disney World (he was the first worker to step foot on Disney property), Epcot Center, and the Florida Mall. He moved to Apopka in 1958, designed and built the home that he lived in until the day he died.

Marshall was dedicated to God, family, and country. He was a founding member of Grace Faulkner Memorial Alliance Church, later known as Northside Alliance in Forrest City, then a member of Wekiwa Springs Baptist Church. He loved and is well-loved by his children and grandchildren. He loved music, gardening, animals, swimming at Wekiwa Springs State Park, canoeing down the river, tooling around in his shop, and being outdoors.

Mr. Holmes will be laid to rest next to his parents in Highland Memory Gardens, Apopka, FL. Arrangements entrusted to Highland Funeral Home, Apopka, FL.

Flowers may be sent to the family home. Donations may be given in Marshall’s memory to Wekiwa Springs Baptist Church.
