Robert G. Case, age 83, died October 10, 2018 at 9:05 am in Winter Park, Florida. He was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma December 27, 1934 and attended public schools in Guthrie and Oklahoma City. Dr. Case attended the University of Oklahoma on a Naval Scholarship, graduating in 1957, and served five years as a Naval Aviator, mainly in patrol planes in the Northern Pacific and Arctic Oceans. He received an M.D. degree after four years of study at the University of Oklahoma Medical School. Following his internship at Chelsea Naval Hospital (Boston, MA) he attended Flight Surgeon School. He served as a Flight Surgeon for the U.S. Marines for three years, then did an ophthalmology residency at San Diego Naval Hospital for three years, completing it in July 1973. He then served at Naval Hospital Orlando until retiring at the rank of Captain from Naval Service in 1983. He was in private practice in Orlando and Winter Park with Dr. Thomas Bates until 1987 when he moved to McAlester, OK and joined the McAlester Clinic. After thirteen years of private practice there, he retired and moved back to Winter Park, FL.
Dr. Case served 27 years in the U.S. Navy. In high school he was a member of DeMolay, serving several positions, including Master Councilor. After becoming a physician, he was a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, Military Ophthalmology Society, Association of Military Physicians, Central Florida Society of Ophthalmology, Florida Medical Association, Oklahoma Medical Association, and Society of Contemporary Ophthalmology. He had licenses to practice medicine in Oklahoma and Florida. He was a member of the local church wherever he lived, serving as a Sunday School teacher in many and on the administrative board in many. His final membership was at the Winter Park Presbyterian Church where he served as a Sunday School leader, Deacon and Elder.
Dr. Case is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Gale; daughters: Debra Sandor, of Boulder, CO and her two children, Jeremy, of Richmond, CA and Melissa of Boulder, CO and Barbara, her husband Andrew Lane, of Winter Park and their two children, Christopher, his wife Samantha, of East Greenwich, RI and Alexander, of Winter Park; brother Joe Paul Case and his wife Judy, of Amherst, MA and their son Brian, of Northampton, MA.
He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers request memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
