ROYSTAN G. BINNS

At the age of 88 years, after several months of illness, Roystan Glenmore Binns departed this life on March 15, 2021, while resting peacefully at his last residence, Madison of Ocoee Assisted Living Center.

He was born in Cornwall, St. James, Jamaica on February 13, 1933 to his loving parents Madeline Marshall and Leonard Binns.

Roy attended West Indies College (now Northern Caribbean University) in Mandeville, Jamaica. He subsequently pursued training and certification in x-ray technology in New York City. He worked for most of his career in Ontario, Canada, Berrien Springs, Michigan, Paw Paw Michigan and Chicago Illinois. In addition to his medical related career, he was also a licensed electrician, having earned and maintained his licensed electrician certification until 2020. This training came in very handy as he pursued his many hobbies including that of renovating homes. By his recollection, he had more than 25 rental homes, that he owned and personally maintained during his time in Michigan, He was truly a man of many talents. He could look at an old house and see great potential and before you knew it, he would be at work through the night, renovating it for the next family of an Andrews University international graduate student, who was looking for affordable housing in Berrien Springs.

Roy was married to his late wife Joy. He is the father of one son, Michael (Laura Ann). He is survived by his sisters Pearl Petigny and Jean Smith and brother Pastor Lloyd Binns, along with several nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.

He enjoyed music in all forms and played the piano, organ, guitar, violin, harmonica and the musical saw. He was a first tenor and sang in choirs in Berrien Springs, Michigan, Avon Park and Apopka, Florida.

After his retirement he relocated to Avon Park, Florida where he maintained a home until 2016. After spending several years there, he made the move to Florida Living Retirement Center in Apopka, Florida. For four years he enjoyed his home at Florida Living and especially his association with the Florida Living Church where he served as a choir member in the men's group and also as a deacon and a member of the singing band.

Roy will be remembered as a person with a phenomenal memory and a keen sense of humor. He was a very kind and generous person who would help any one in need. He was a Christian gentleman who was looking and ready for the return of his maker.
