Sherman Napier, Jr.

December 18, 1929 — March 5, 2022

Mount Dora, FL

Sherman passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Tavares with his wife, Vivian, by his side. Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Linda, and her husband, Michael; son, Doyle; granddaughter, Caitlin; grandsons Jake, and Jason; great-granddaughters Daja, and Charley, great-grandsons: Joseph and Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his step-daughters Dahna James and Nadine James. He is predeceased by his parents, Sherman and Julian (Ford), and his brothers, Albert, Alfred, Jacob, and Marrs, as well as his first wife, Mae (Frasher).

Sherman was born in Pikeville, Kentucky, and early in his life his family moved to rural East Lynne, West Virginia. He loved to remember his childhood, swimming in creeks and exploring the hills. He served both in the US Army and the US Marine Corps. After his service he drove a dump truck, worked for a short time in a coal mine, and married his first wife, Mae. After the birth of his children, he moved his young family to Orlando, and worked for Lockheed Martin as a Security Guard for over 30 years.

After retirement, Sherman volunteered as a Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary Trooper and enjoyed riding along and assisting troopers in their daily responsibilities. He also fulfilled a lifelong dream of seeing Alaska, driving in a converted school bus with his nephews across the country and north to Alaska. He was active in his grandsons early lives, attending sporting events to cheer them on.

He met and married his wife, Vivian, and they settled in Mt. Dora. He enjoyed taking walks in his neighborhood, feeding the ducks at the pond, and puttering in his yard. He was blessed with a long and healthy life.
